It’s hard to start a blog because most of us are too critical of what we write. Picking a platform, a theme, and a name are all the easier parts. Sitting down to write your heart out is a pain in the ass.
So why write? Do I really have something important to say? … Yes – I do have something to say, and I am a voice in the world that wants to be read. (If I wanted to be heard I’d start a podcast, but listening to my own voice is harder than reading my own writing.)
I’m not here to write anything – I’m trying to write something.
Why the distinction? Anything is adding to the wealth of information on celebrity gossip, political rants, slicing an onion, applying eyeliner, or traveling wisely. I admire the bloggers who write on these subjects in a memorable way because it’s very busy out there. When I come across voices in the crowd that are unique I recognize how much work they put into making it their own. I read a lot of these blogs, but I have no desire to write in a specific niche.
I wish to write something that is meaningful to me personally: thoughts, dreams, hopes, pet peeves, best practices, and life’s true purpose. That last one is a bit heavy, but I believe everyone needs to decide their own, and if I can help someone else think about theirs by writing about how I find mine then the time I put into this site is worth it.
If you are reading this, thank you.
